Announcing The Resilient Kitsap 2050 Plan

Work has begun on a plan to bring Kitsap County into a more resilient space by 2050. Why because if we do not things will get progressively worse every year until it is untenable for almost everyone. The plan will not be coming from Washington State, Kitsap County Government, or any of the Cities or agencies, it will be coming from us, because we are the only ones with the vested interest in fixing things, or, at the very least, things being fixed and not getting worse.

The U.S. Constitution starts off with “We the People” not the government will, this means that we are responsible for what the government does and for what we have allowed it to become. It also means that we have the responsibility and the means to correct the problems, we just need to do it together.

The 2050 Plan is a tool to create the process and platforms to make this happen.

How?

By creating community driven hubs that intersect and will begin to create a picture of what a resilient county can look like. It will also plant the seed that grows into a grassroots movement to drive the necessary changes and engage the greater community into the process. Yep, just like democracy was meant to work.

The initial Hubs are:

  • Food

  • Water

  • Housing

  • Power/Utility

  • Education

  • Transportation

  • Communication

  • Economy

  • Waste

  • Healthcare

  • Governance

The Transportation Hub begins this week, Food is in the planning stages and will launch next month, each of the others will launch this year. The missing piece is you!

None of this works without “We the People”, that means you.

Think of this as a jigsaw puzzle, everyone is a piece to the puzzle and this process is the edges, we cannot know what the picture is unless we have enough pieces to build the puzzle.

We know you are tired of hearing (reading) us say this, but it all begins with perspective, and some tools we must learn (relearn) around communication, consensus, facilitation, and community. There will be workshops offered for this as the project continues.

Join us on this journey to a better place for all of us to live and work!
