June 15th, 2015, the New Yorker magazine came out with the “Big One” article bringing awareness to the pending Cascadia Raising event that will devastate the West Coast from Vancouver Canada to Crescent City California.
In the aftermath of this revelation, made public for the first time several reports became public, and many local agencies ran around looking like they were doing things, at least until the media moved on to something else.
One report from FEMA stuck with us though we have been unable to find it since: Kitsap County will likely be without power for up to a year…
Think about that while looking at the outage map, 2/25/2025 11:00AM, above… Notice Kitsap?
Think about what people are going through today, as we have three people in our home staying warm. Think about how many people have electric heat, electric stoves, and how many of us are dependent on electric devices, not to mention our omnipresent smartphones.
This is not meant to scare you, though it should, it is meant to get you thinking about a future where we have the capacity to generate our own power locally, to have security that the current utility model does not provide us. We can certainly do better than this, much better, but we need to come together and create the will and the resources to do so. We have technology today, we have working models today, what we lack is awareness, and the will to drive the change.
Thoughts on a human future… The Resilient Ecosystems Team.
The Resilient Community Movement
In today's ever-changing world, the importance of fostering resilience within neighborhoods and communities cannot be overstated. By facilitating connections among residents, we empower individuals to share their stories and experiences, creating a strong support network. This collaborative spirit not only enhances the well-being of community members but also amplifies their voices, ensuring that their unique human needs are recognized and addressed.
